Medicare Coverage

The VivaLift!® Tranquil 2 PLR935S uses an electric seat-lift mechanism associated with HCPCS code E0627. Medicare may cover the medically necessary electric seat-lift mechanism portion of the chair when applicable requirements are met. The furniture or recliner portion of the chair is generally not covered by Medicare.

Medicare requires the seat-lift mechanism to be medically necessary and ordered as part of the treating practitioner’s course of treatment. Eligibility may include individuals with severe arthritis of the hip or knee or certain severe neuromuscular conditions who are unable to stand from a regular chair but are able to walk after reaching a standing position.

When Medicare requirements are satisfied, Medicare Part B generally pays 80% of the Medicare-approved amount after the Part B deductible is met, with the beneficiary typically responsible for the remaining 20%. Actual coverage and out-of-pocket costs depend on medical necessity, documentation, eligibility, supplier participation, and Medicare’s final claim determination.
