The Sitting Pretty® Evolution LC435L contains an electrically operated seat-lift mechanism associated with HCPCS E0627. CMS identifies E0627 as the billing code for an electrically operated seat-lift mechanism.

Medicare may cover the medically necessary electric seat-lift mechanism portion of the chair when applicable requirements are satisfied. The ordinary upholstered chair or furniture portion itself is generally not covered as durable medical equipment.

CMS coverage criteria require the beneficiary to have severe arthritis of the hip or knee or a severe neuromuscular disease, for the lift mechanism to be part of the treating practitioner’s course of treatment, for the beneficiary to be completely incapable of standing from a regular chair in the home, and for the beneficiary to be able to walk after reaching a standing position. Additional documentation requirements apply.

After the Medicare Part B deductible is met, beneficiaries generally pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for covered DME when the supplier accepts assignment.
