The VivaLift!® Premier PLR5900M contains an electrically operated seat-lift mechanism associated with HCPCS E0627.

Medicare may cover the medically necessary electric seat-lift mechanism portion of the chair when applicable Medicare requirements are satisfied. The furniture, leather upholstery, audio system, vibration system, charging features, and ordinary recliner portion are generally not covered as durable medical equipment.

Coverage criteria for a seat-lift mechanism include having severe arthritis of the hip or knee or a severe neuromuscular disease, being completely unable to stand from a regular armchair or another chair in the home, and being able to walk after reaching a standing position. The mechanism must also be part of the treating practitioner’s course of treatment, and appropriate documentation is required.
