Medicare Coverage
The VivaLift!® Tranquil 2 PLR935LT uses an electric seat-lift mechanism associated with HCPCS code E0627. Medicare may cover the medically necessary electric seat-lift mechanism portion of the chair when Medicare’s coverage requirements are satisfied. The furniture or recliner portion of the chair is generally not covered.
Medicare requires the seat-lift mechanism to be medically necessary and prescribed or ordered as part of the treating practitioner’s course of treatment. Coverage criteria may include individuals with severe arthritis of the hip or knee or certain severe neuromuscular diseases who have significant difficulty standing from a regular chair and meet Medicare’s other requirements.
After the Medicare Part B deductible is met, beneficiaries generally pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for covered durable medical equipment when the supplier accepts assignment. Medicare generally covers the remaining approved portion. Actual coverage and out-of-pocket costs depend on medical necessity, documentation, Medicare eligibility, supplier participation, and final claim determination.
