Medicare Coverage

The Sitting Pretty® Evolution LC435S uses an electric seat-lift mechanism associated with HCPCS code E0627. Medicare may cover the medically necessary electric seat-lift mechanism portion of the chair when applicable Medicare requirements are satisfied. The ordinary upholstered chair or recliner portion is generally not covered.

Medicare coverage requires the seat-lift mechanism to be medically necessary and prescribed as part of the treating practitioner’s course of treatment. Coverage criteria generally include severe arthritis of the hip or knee or a severe neuromuscular disease, being unable to stand from a regular chair, and being able to walk after reaching a standing position. Appropriate medical documentation is required.

After the Medicare Part B deductible is met, Medicare generally pays 80% of the Medicare-approved amount for covered durable medical equipment, while the beneficiary typically pays the remaining 20% when the supplier accepts assignment. Actual coverage and costs depend on eligibility, medical necessity, documentation, supplier participation, and Medicare’s final claim decision.
